Hundreds support Israel’s right to defend itself against Hamas in Madrid

Around half a thousand people gathered in front of the Israeli embassy in Spain to support the Israeli people and claim their right to defend themselves from the Hamas terrorist attack. The event was organised by the Federation of Jewish Communities of Spain (FCJE).

The protesters read out a manifesto denouncing the “cruelty” of the Hamas attack on Israeli territory, which has caused more than 1200 deaths, and demanded the release of the hostages held in the Gaza Strip

“Hamas is a terrorist group whose declared aim is to destroy Israel and kill Jews wherever they are. What we are experiencing is not a conflict between the people of Israel and the Palestinians, but between Israel and the terrorist group Hamas (…) Anything short of outright condemnation only legitimises the terrorist actions of this organisation”, they stressed.

They call for the control of the destination of Spanish international aid funds and the cancellation of any funds suspected of financing terrorism and call for the avoidance of antisemitism, while demanding objective and truthful information about Israel.

The president of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Spain Isaac Benzaquén Pinto, condemned the “atrocious” acts of Hamas against “innocent” people and called for the intervention of international courts to bring Hamas to justice.

The Israeli ambassador, for her part, thanked Spain for its support in the face of “barbarities” that she compares to the actions of ISIS and defended the need to “eradicate” Hamas.
