EJC Vice-President Raya Kalenova warns anti-Zionism is increasingly being used as a vehicle for antisemitism

In her remarks during a WGAS event in the EU Parliament, she warned that antisemitism is increasingly appearing under new labels and narratives, and stressed that if Europe fails to protect its Jewish communities, it fails not only Jews, but Europe itself.

EJC Executive Vice-President Raya Kalenova spoke on i24NEWS French about the growing insecurity felt by many Jewish communities in Europe since 7 October. She stressed that governments have adopted strategies and laws to combat antisemitism, but noted that in many countries concrete action has yet to follow.

“Jews were murdered not for their opinions, but for who they are. Antisemitism thrives where hate is excused, terror is relativised, and lines are no longer drawn,” she said in the European Parliament.

She warned of the dangers of antisemitism before a moment of silence for the victims of the Bondi Beach terror attack, recalling that “the story of Hanukkah tells us that no terror can ever extinguish the flickering light of these days of hope.”

The renovation has transformed the institution into a modern medical centre with upgraded wards, expanded hospice and rehabilitation units, new equipment and state-of-the-art facilities.

The summit saw key contributions from the Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo, President of CRIF Yonatan Arfi and EJC President Dr Moshe Kantor, as well as mayors of major cities from around the world and experts on antisemitism.

She delivered a powerful address reaffirming Paris’s unwavering stance against rising antisemitism. She spoke of the impact of the 7 October 2023 Hamas attacks, the city’s immediate solidarity with Israel, and Paris’s support for the families of the hostages.

In a time when anti-Zionism often serves as a guise for antisemitism and silence threatens to erase the memory of October 7, her message resonated with clarity and strength: the Jewish people remain steadfast, resilient, and proud of their identity.
