320 antisemitic incidents documented in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2023

The Hamas massacre of October 7th and the subsequent war in Gaza have fueled antisemitism in North Rhine-Westphalia.

As of December 2023, 320 antisemitic incidents were documented in the region.

This information comes from a response by the state government to an inquiry from the German Socialist Party, which was made available to the German Press Agency in Düsseldorf.

“The rise in antisemitic sentiments and actions is continuing,” said Lisa-Kristin Kapteinat, vice-chair of the SPD state parliamentary group.

“This concerns all of us and it worries me greatly.” The figures are alarming, especially since “the actual number is likely much higher.”
