Far-right crimes in Germany increased to 28,945 in 2023

Far-right crimes committed in Germany increased to 2023 in 28.945 from 23.943 in 2022, according to preliminary statistics on politically motivated crimes from the German Interior Ministry.

German Minister of the Interior and Community Nancy Faeser, stated: “It must be assumed that even violent crimes of right-wing extremism continued to increase significantly in 2023.”

According to the federal government representative, the national conservative Alternative for Germany (AfD) party is co-responsible for this increase.

In particular, Faeser said: “Those who, like the AfD and its supporters, fuel manifest racism and contempt for humankind have become louder in recent years.” All this creates “a climate of resentment and violence”, which leads to an increase in crimes, including violent ones, by the far right.

According to Faeser, this “shared responsibility” of Afd must be clearly denounced. With regard to violent crimes committed by right-wing extremists, the total recorded by the police in 2023 amounted to 1.270, up from 1.170 in 2022 and 1.042 in 2021. For far-left crimes, the growth was from 6.976 in 2022 to 7.777 in 2023.
