Swedish Jewish Community condemns the burning of a Quran in Stockholm

The Swedish Jewish Community made a statement condemning the burning of a Quran in Stockholm:

“On the occasion of the burning of the Koran today outside the mosque on Södermalm in Stockholm, the Jewish Central Council wishes to express solidarity with our Muslim friends. The burning of religious books is a heinous act which we condemn. We wish our friends a happy eid and that next year we can do this under happier circumstances!.”

Two men stood outside Stockholm’s central mosque and burned a Quran, following the go-ahead given by a Swedish court, to coincide with the beginning of the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha.

The man who had requested permission for the action, a 30-year-old Iraqi refugee who wants the book banned, tore out pages from the Quran, wiped them on his shoe and set some of them on fire.
