Jaén Jewish quarter interpretation center to be created

The president of the Patronage of the Municipal Popular University, Carmen Rueda, signed a collaboration agreement with the president of the socio-cultural Association Iuventa, Rafael Cámara.

This agreement will allow the creation of a Center for the Interpretation of the Jewish Quarter of Jaén at the Sabetay building in Jaén, which houses the UPMJ (Municipal Popular University of Jaén).

Rafael Cámara stated that the goal is to complement the guided tours while highlighting the city’s history. “We want to show visitors works such as the sculpture of Ben Saprut or the gold medal awarded to him,” said the president.

The agreement between the two entities will also facilitate the promotion of this space and the development of activities to promote the knowledge of Jewish history and other cultures in the city.

“Today is a historic day because it fulfills the wishes of the citizens and Iuventa for Jaén to have a Center for the Interpretation of the Jewish Quarter of Jaén. This will provide visitors with another point of interest to learn about its history,” asserted Carmen Rueda.

The Jewish community in Jaén, established in the Middle Ages, significantly contributed to the city’s economic and cultural life, leaving a lasting impact on its history.
