FCJE conveys to the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs its concern about the increase in antisemitism

The president of the Federation of Spanish Jewish Communities (FCJE) David Obadía, along with members of the institution’s standing and executive committees, attended a meeting called by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union, and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, to review the programming of the Sefarad-Israel Center.

Official representatives of the Spanish Jewish communities have conveyed to the minister their concern about the serious increase in antisemitism in Spain, which is evident in some educational centers, universities, media outlets, etc.

In addition to thanking the National Plan against Antisemitism that the Government approved in January 2023 at the urging of the European Commission, they have expressed the need to strengthen said plan to adapt it to the current situation and effectively address the rise in antisemitism, which is reaching levels not seen in decades.

David Obadía has conveyed to the Minister of Foreign Affairs gratitude towards the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande Marlaska, as well as to the State security forces and bodies, for the reinforcement of security in community centers, synagogues, Jewish schools, and kosher establishments.
