Belgian Jews welcome proposed resolution against antisemitism

The Coordinating Committee of Belgian Jewish Organisations (CCOJB) – the country’s EJC affiliate – welcomed a proposed resolution by the Belgian Senate on combatting antisemitism.

The proposed Resolution translates the excellent European Parliament Resolution of 1 June 2017 on combatting antisemitism, which was adopted by a large majority in the EP across the political spectrum. CCOJB will follow the proposal attentively.

“Our country is at the front line of the devastation caused by antisemitism,” said CCOJB President Yohan Benizri. “Antisemitism has not only killed in Belgium, it has also become part of the hateful populist discourse that we must all oppose. That is why it is imperative that this proposed resolution becomes reality. Many European countries have already taken action, and we need Belgium to also take the lead on this. A rapid adoption of this Resolution is the way forward.”
