Swiss National Council adopts motion for a strategy and action plan against antisemitism

The Security Policy Commission of the National Council submitted a motion for an antisemitism strategy in November 2023, calling for a strategy and an action plan against racism and antisemitism.

The National Council voted in favor of the motion in March 2024 with 125 yes votes to 48 no votes and 9 abstentions. The SIG is very pleased that the members of the National Council have sent this important signal.

The motion demands: The federal government, together with the cantons, should develop a strategy and an action plan against racism and antisemitism.

These should hold the federal government, cantons and municipalities accountable according to their respective tasks and responsibilities. The existing specialist office for combating racism must be strengthened with sufficient resources. The report “Evaluation of measures against antisemitism by the federal government, cantons and municipalities” also needs to be updated.

Finally, it should be examined whether an additional representative for combating racism and antisemitism should be appointed.
