Swiss Federal Council recommends motion for a national antisemitism strategy

The Federal Council has spoken out in favor of supporting a motion that calls to develop an antisemitism strategy.

The motion calls for a strategy and an action plan against racism and antisemitism.

The motion demands:

“The federal government, together with the cantons, should develop a strategy and an action plan against racism and antisemitism . These should hold the federal government, cantons and municipalities accountable according to their respective tasks and responsibilities. The existing specialist office for combating racism must be strengthened with sufficient resources. The report “Evaluation of measures against antisemitism by the federal government, cantons and municipalities” also needs to be updated. Finally, it should be examined whether an additional representative for combating racism and antisemitism should be appointed.”

The SIG is very pleased that the Federal Council has now also recognised the seriousness of the situation and is now positive about the SIG’s call for an antisemitism strategy.

However, the SIG remains convinced that the Federal Council should now quickly tackle implementation of this issue.
