Hundreds gather in front of the ULB to protest against antisemitism after Jewish students were attacked

Hundreds joined the Union of Jewish Students of Belgium (UEJB) in a demonstration against antisemitism on campus after Jewish students were attacked by pro-Palestinian protesters.

The incidents reveal an increasingly anti-Jewish climate on campus. Since October 7th, Jewish students have had several contacts with academic authorities to ask them to take action against the harassment and aggression they suffer.

Organiser and co-president of the UEJB, Gad Deshayes said: ‘This is a demonstration in support of Jewish students and students in general who are suffering from what is happening on campus lately and the tolerance of the authorities in the face of it, but also to show that we are united, that we will not accept to let this happen and that we will act.’

The University Rector Annemie Schaus said she ‘fully supports the slogan against antisemitism. I’m extremely touched to see the number of people present (at the rally); It’s a strong mobilisation and I find it very important.’
