Jewish community of Vienna celebrates street festival

The Jewish Community of Vienna (IKG) celebrated their traditional street festival at Judenplatz.

Fifty stalls were presented, including those from clubs and organisations in the areas of youth, religion, sport, art, and culture.

Live performances by the Noya Showband, the Meirov Brothers Band, and the Samaria Klezmerband ensured a lively atmosphere.

As always, Jewish folk dancing was particularly popular.

Mayor Michael Ludwig and Markus Figl, district leader of the 1st district, addressed the visitors, including Federal Minister Karoline Edtstadler, Interior Minister Gerhard Karner, Minister Leonore Gewessler, City Councillor Peter Hacker, and party chairman Andreas Babler.

Oskar Deutsch, the President of the Jewish Community of Vienna, gave the welcoming speech, and IKG Vice President Claudia Prutscher reported on the cultural programme. The visit by relatives of hostages and the expression of sympathy by everyone during a minute’s silence were very moving.

The Jewish Street Festival is an expression of the vibrancy and resilience of the Jewish community, providing a platform to raise awareness of cultural diversity and promote intercultural exchange. And of course, it is a place for joy and celebration.
