The Senate of Hamburg, the city-state’s executive, has appointed Stefan Hensel as Commissioner on combatting and preventing antisemitism.
Mr. Hensel is the long-standing chairman of the German-Israeli Society Hamburg, Stefan Hensel, has been appointed by the Hamburg Senate for this position for the next three years. The appointment follows the recommendation of the Jewish community of Hamburg.
Commenting on this appointment, the Mayor of Hamburg, Dr. Peter Tschentscher said: “Hamburg is a cosmopolitan and diverse metropolis. Antisemitism and discrimination have no place in our democratic urban society. I would like to thank Mr. Hensel for assuming the position of antisemitism commissioner for the Senate and for doing so in a special way to promote tolerance and against antisemitism.”
Mr. Hensel will henceforth be the contact person for the concerns of Jews in the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and will represent the city-state in the Federal Commission for combating antisemitism and protecting Jewish life.
In addition, he is will be involved in the development and implementation of the city-state strategy for the prevention of antisemitism, as well as in educational work.
