The UK’s Union of Jewish Students and the Bristol Jewish Society (J-Soc) have accused Bristol University of an “absolute failure of their duty of care” on their response to complaints about the conduct of Professor David Miller.
The two organisations had been invited to attend a virtual meeting with senior management of the institution for an update in order that the university could present “a set of action points they will be taking” in response to the sociology lecturer’s conduct.
In a statement, the UJS and Bristol J-Soc stated that the purpose of the meeting was for them to present a set of action points they would be taking.
“Unfortunately, the answer we received was that the University cannot tell us if any action is being taken,” the statement added.
“They also told us they are unable to publicly condemn the abuse Jewish students are receiving, in order to remain neutral.”
“Neutrality and silence in the face of the targeted attacks on Jewish students and their representative society and union is unacceptable and an absolute failure of their duty of care to Jewish students,” the statement added.
UJS is the representative organisation of over 8,500 Jewish students, spanning 67 Jewish Societies (J-Socs) on campuses across the UK and Ireland.
