EJC attends opening ceremony of the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the EU


EJC Vice-President Raya Kalenova and Director of European Affairs Ariella Woitchik attended the opening ceremony of the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

This prestigious event, held at Bozar in Brussels, showcased Hungary’s rich historic and cultural heritage as well as its commitment to strengthening European cooperation.

Ambassador Bálint Ódor, Permanent Representative of Hungary to the European Union, opened the event, followed by Tamás Sulyok, President of Hungary, who delivered a keynote speech stressing the importance of European unity. He recalled Hungary’s successful EU Presidency 13 years ago and expressed confidence in repeating that success, citing Hungary’s experience and preparedness.

The evening’s highlight was an outstanding performance titled “Our European Heritage” by artists from the Müpa Budapest performing arts center. The artistic excellence and elegance of the numerous dancers combined with virtuoso musicians on stage were received with a lot of enthusiasm by the public.  This impressive performance underscored Hungary’s rich cultural diversity and shared heritage that strengthen Europe.

“This unforgettable event marked the beginning of the Hungarian Presidency in the best possible manner. We are thankful for the invitation and are confident that this groundbreaking inauguration will pave the way for great accomplishments in the coming months,” said EJC Vice-President Raya Kalenova.

The European Jewish Congress wishes the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union great success and looks forward to continuing its collaboration in fostering Jewish life and fighting antisemitism in Europe.
