EJC condemns antisemitic remarks made by Bulgarian MEP Dimitar Stoyanov

Dimitar Stoyanov, the youngest member of the European Parliament, whose country Bulgaria joined the EU twelve days ago, didn’t wait for the official creation of an new extreme-right group in the parliament to give a racist, xenophobic and anti-Semitic tone to his political orientation.

In an interview published yesterday in the British newspaper Daily Telegraph, Dimitar Stoyanov attacked the Roma, speaking of them with contempt.

In the same interview, Dimitar Stoyanov used some of the most worn-out anti-Semitic clichŽs, saying:

“There are a lot of powerful Jews, with a lot of money, who are paying the media to form the social awareness of the people.”

He has denied accusations of antisemitism.

The EJC calls on members of the European Parliament to condemn the racist and anti-Semitic remarks made by the new MEP.

The EJC also calls upon members of the European Parliament to withdraw MEP Stoyanov’s parliamentary immunity so that it may launch legal proceedings against him.
