POLITICO Brussels Playbook: EJC IHRD 2026 event

HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY: Spotted at a premiere screening of “Nuremberg,” starring Russell Crowe, at Brussels’ Toison d’Or cinema last night, hosted by the European Jewish Congress (EJC): Israeli EU Ambassador Avi Nir-Feldklein; Ukrainian Ambassador Vsevolod Chentsov; Czech Permanent Representative Vladimír Bärtl; Austrian Permanent Representative Gregor Schusterschitz; UAE Ambassador Mohamed Al Sahlawi; Italian Ambassador Federica Favi; French Ambassador Xavier Lapeyre de Cabanes; Commission antisemitism czar Katharina von Schnurbein; and Holocaust survivors Regina Sluszny and Jozef Sznajer.

Call on EU: “It’s extremely important to pay tribute to the memory of the victims of the 6 million Jews who perished and all other victims who perished during the Holocaust but it’s equally important to focus on what’s going on today,” EJC European Affairs Director Ariella Woitchik told Playbook. She warned that many people now “think twice before exposing their Jewish identity” because of antisemitism. “Jewish communities feel very alone, very isolated and they would like to see more support, more solidarity.”
