“Following several attacks targeting Jewish places of worship, leaders are warning about a rise in antisemitic violence. The President of the World Jewish Congress, Ronald Lauder, condemned the attack on the Temple Israel synagogue in Michigan. For him, this incident is part of a broader trend marked by assaults targeting Jewish institutions in North America and Europe. Although no victims were reported, he believes that the recurrence of such acts represents a worrying signal for democracies and calls on authorities to act firmly.
In Europe, concern is also growing. Raya Kalenova, Executive Vice-President of the European Jewish Congress, points to an increase in attacks against synagogues and a Jewish school, particularly in the Netherlands and Belgium. Several very young suspects have been arrested in Rotterdam. According to her, international tensions are fuelling radicalisation that could lead to acts of violence. Despite this context, Jewish communities maintain that they will continue to live and practise their faith without yielding to intimidation, while calling on governments to strengthen the protection of Jewish institutions.”
