Amazon joins the Dutch Coordinator for Combating Antisemitism initiative to stop the sale of antisemitic books

Amazon has joined the initiative to combat the online sale of antisemitic books, which was launched in 2023 by the Dutch Coordinator for Combating Antisemitism.

The initiative seeks to enhance the efficiency of web shops and online platforms in removing antisemitic content from their product offerings, complementing the existing measures through criminal law.

Bol, Marktplaats, Audax Retail (Bruna and Readshop), Libris and NBD Biblion have been exchanging methods and experiences for a year now to combat the sale of antisemitic content.

Eddo Verdoner, National Coordinator for Combating Antisemitism: “An increasing share of book sales is online. This presents us with new challenges. That is why a new approach is needed to combat the sale of antisemitic content, in addition to the legal approach. It is important that as many online players as possible join in. It is positive that a large international party such as Amazon is joining in and wants to use its knowledge and experience for this.”
