Two men spit and insult a Jewish man in Davos

Davos, a popular summer holiday destination for Orthodox Jews, has a long history of tensions involving the Jewish community. However, for the first time, these tensions have escalated into a physical assault.

Two men attacked a 19-year-old Orthodox Jew on the street, spitting on him and beating him, according to the victim’s account. Fortunately, he was not injured in the attack.

The attackers, both reportedly in their mid-30s, allegedly shouted “Free Palestine!.”

The Graubünden cantonal police confirmed that a report had been filed and that investigations were underway, focusing on two unidentified individuals.

The victim, a British national, is familiar with Davos, having studied at a Talmudic school there, which closed in the spring. After returning to England, he is now spending his holidays in the Grisons mountains.

Jonathan Kreutner, Secretary-General of the Swiss Federation of Jewish Communities (SIG), was appalled by the incident. He spoke with the victim over the phone and travelled to Davos to meet the young man.
