Antisemitic slogans and symbols were discovered on the door of the synagogue in Biel. A swastika and the slogans “Sieg Heil” and “Juden Pack” were engraved with a sharp object.
Alerted by a passer-by of the damage to the door, the police investigated. At this time, there are no clues as to the perpetrators and possible motives for this act.
The Swiss Federation of Jewish Communities (SIG/FCSI) reacted : “This is a desecration of the synagogue and a serious antisemitic incident. The Jewish Community of Biel and the Swiss Federation of Jewish Communities are shocked and condemn this act of violence in the strongest possible terms”.
Together with the Federation, the local Jewish community will file a criminal complaint. Both parties hope that the perpetrator(s) will be quickly apprehended and held accountable for their actions.
