Synagogues across Switzerland to be illuminated on Pogromnacht

Synagogues will be lit up across Switzerland on the night prior to 9 November to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Pogromnacht, the huge mass anti-Jewish pogrom in Nazi Germany in 1938.

On that night and the following day, nearly 200 synagogues were destroyed and over 7,000 Jewish owned businesses sacked and looted.

The Swiss Federation of Jewish Communities – the country’s EJC affiliate – and the Swiss Liberal Jewish Platform together with communities across the country will light up the exteriors of synagogues in Basel, Bern, Geneva, Lausanne and Zurich on the night of the 8th November since the 9th this year falls on a Friday night, the eve of Shabbat.
