The Swiss Federation of Jewish Communities (SIG) and the GRA Foundation Against Racism and Antisemitism released their 2022 Antisemitism report for the German, Italian and Romansh language areas of Switzerland.
According to the report, the number of registered antisemitic incidents rose again in 2022, both online and in the real world. The main cause was an emerging subculture and not typical trends of left and right-wing or Islamist extremism. Born out of opposition to Covid measures, an explicitly anti-state
and anti-society subculture has developed in Switzerland which is particularly obsessed with
conspiracy theories of all kinds. The Russian war of aggression against Ukraine has only
broadened the pool of conspiracy theories and intensified their spread.
Based on the findings, President of SIG Ralph Lewin and President of GRA Pascal Pernet called for the Swiss government involvement in monitoring antisemitism and racism and for an examination of the legal means to tack and limit hate speech.
