Swiss Federation of Jewish Communities launches new survey about antisemitism in the country

Swiss universities and Jewish organisations launched a nationwide survey of Jewish individuals to examine antisemitism in the country. This initiative builds on a similar study conducted in 2020 and aims to provide a more comprehensive understanding of antisemitism in Switzerland, supplementing annual reports.

The scientifically-supported study is led by institutions including the University of Zurich, Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW), Haute école de travail social Fribourg (HETS-FR), the Swiss Federation of Jewish Communities (SIG), CICAD, and the GRA Foundation Against Racism and Antisemitism.

These organisations contribute to existing antisemitism reports, which rely on reported cases and media monitoring. However, many incidents remain unreported due to fear, stigma, or perceived ineffectiveness of reporting.

This renewed survey seeks to capture unreported experiences and enhance the annual reports’ findings, offering a more holistic view of antisemitism. Following a surge in antisemitic incidents since October 2023, this study is particularly timely and vital.

The survey targets all Jews in Switzerland aged 16 and over, regardless of their personal experiences with antisemitism. Broad participation is crucial for achieving representative results. The survey is anonymous, voluntary, and available in German, French, and English. Completing it takes approximately 30 minutes, with strict data protection measures in place.
