The Swiss Federal Council has announced an increase in annual security funding for endangered minorities, raising the allocation from CHF 5 million to CHF 6 million for 2026 and 2027.
The Swiss Federation of Jewish Communities (SIG) welcomed the move as a vital signal of political responsibility amid ongoing security threats.
The funding, established under the 2019 Ordinance on the Security of Minorities with Special Protection Needs, has been gradually expanded in response to growing threats, particularly following the events of 7 October 2023. Most recent applications for support come from Jewish institutions, with 37 out of 44 approved requests in early 2025.
While the SIG views the increase as a step forward, it warns that current levels still fall short of meeting the continued high demand. It urges cantonal authorities to strengthen their contributions and to provide sustainable support. In light of rising antisemitism and persistent terror threats, the SIG stresses that ensuring adequate protection remains an urgent and ongoing necessity.
