Swiss Federal Council adopts motion to protect religious minorities

Switzerland’s Council of States adopted on Thursday a motion to protect religious communities from terrorism and from extremist violence.

“Here we have a signal of encouragement. The political will to improve the situation now exists, Herbert Winter, president of the Swiss Federation of Jewish Communities (FSCI/SIG) said.

The FSCI said it was confident that the government would also adopt the motion submitted by Zurich legislator Daniel Jositsch. The organisation, which is the country’s EJC affiliate, added that it would cooperate with governing and parliamentary institutions to ensure that practical applications stemming from this motion were presented as soon as possible.
