Swedish Government increases funding to strengthen security for Jewish community

The Swedish government has announced new measures to strengthen the security of the country’s Jewish community, amid a heightened threat environment targeting Jewish individuals and institutions.

According to a proposal published on 26 March 2026, the government plans to allocate 9 million Swedish kronor to the Judiska Centralrådet to support enhanced security measures throughout 2026.

The funding aims to improve safety and resilience for Sweden’s Jewish minority at a time of increasing concern over antisemitic threats.

This initiative builds on an existing state support scheme introduced in 2018, which provides funding for security-enhancing measures to civil society organisations. The programme, administered by the Myndigheten för ungdoms- och civilsamhällesfrågor, will have a total budget of 74 million kronor for 2026.

In addition, a targeted support package of 10 million kronor was granted in 2025 specifically to the Jewish Central Council for similar security efforts. The government now intends to reinforce this support with an additional 9 million kronor, to be formally proposed in the 2026 spring amending budget.
