The Jewish communities of Sweden have issued a joint statement expressing strong support for President of the Official Council of Swedish Jewish Communities Aron Verständig and condemning the public attacks against him as unfounded and antisemitic in tone.
They emphasise that the hateful campaign affects not only him personally but also the entire Jewish community in Sweden.
“Statement from the Jewish Communities in Sweden
We view the ongoing public campaign against Aron Verständig, Chairman of the Jewish Central Council, with great concern. The unfounded and heavily biased attacks directed at him are not just an attack on an individual, but also contribute to reinforcing a hostile and antisemitic tone in public discourse.
Aron Verständig is a respected leader and a voice for the Jewish civil society in Sweden. The fact that he, in his role as chairman of the Jewish Central Council, is attacked for his clear stance on Jewish life, religious identity, and minority rights is deeply troubling — and something we must all take very seriously.
We hereby express our strong support for Aron Verständig and at the same time firmly condemn the rhetoric and attacks directed at him. What is happening affects not only him personally, but also the entire Jewish minority in Sweden.
