Spanish Jews thank Catalan Police for decisive action at far right demonstration

The Federation of Jewish Communities of Spain (FCJE), has thanked the Catalan Police, Mossos d’Esquadra for its speed and diligence in identifying a person who made antisemitic threats against the Jewish community during a far right demonstration in Barcelona.

“It is worrying that in a commemorative act we hear proclamations of hatred against a group that has nothing to do with the claimed issue”, the FCJE said in a statement.

Spanish Jews are grateful for “the continued support” of the Government of the Generalitat of Catalonia and “especially” to the team of the Minister of Interior of the Government of Catalonia, Joan Ignasi Elena, “the determination and firmness with which he has acted”.

Finally, the FCJE stressed that they will always denounce all forms of hate crimes and discrimination and will support “reconciliation and coexistence”.

The FCJE is Spain’s EJC affiliate.
