Spanish Jewish leader emphasises role of education against antisemitism

The president of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Spain (FCJE ), Isaac Benzaquén, emphasised the role of education to increase tolerance and to combat antisemitism, in an interview for Malaga=based newspaper Diario Sur.

According to Mr. Benzaquén, there is an urgent need to promote eduaction. “Knowledge of the Jewish and particularly the Sephardic legacy, and the study of the Shoah, must be introduced in classrooms across Spain. The holocaust has to be presented on secondary and high-school books in an objective way for young to have objective knowledge about the topic.”

“In addition, current school books Bhave to undergo a review process, because many do not tell the truth. I believe that this is an obligation that administrations must have,” Mr. Benzaquén added.
