Melilla’s Jewish Community will receive a €40,000 grant from the Tourism Board for the development of activities as part of the “Route of the Temples” initiative, according to the Official Gazette of Melilla.
The funding will cover expenses related to these activities throughout 2026, with the reporting period running until 31 March 2027.
Under the agreement, the Jewish Community commits to maintaining the Or Zaruah Synagogue and ensuring that it can be enjoyed both by the people of Melilla and by tourists visiting the city. Visits will include a specialised guide with expertise in Judaism, the history of Melilla’s Jewish community, and the synagogue’s past and present.
In addition, security personnel will be present to ensure the safety of visitors and the building itself, taking into account the specific security requirements synagogues face in light of potential threats.
For its part, the Tourism Board will continue promoting the “Route of the Temples” as one of Melilla’s principal cultural and heritage attractions, further highlighting the city’s Jewish heritage and multicultural character.
