His Majesty King Felipe VI received in audience a delegation from the Federation of Jewish Communities of Spain (FCJE), led by its President, David Obadía.
The purpose of the audience was to reaffirm the Federation’s loyalty to the Crown and to brief the King on the current situation faced by Jewish communities in Spain, marked by a sharp rise in antisemitism.
The delegation included Isaac Querub, former President of the FCJE; Raymond Forado, Vice President of the FCJE and President of the Jewish Community of Barcelona; Perla Salama, Secretary General of the FCJE; Carolina Aisen, Executive Director of the FCJE; Estrella Bengio, President of the Jewish Community of Madrid; Ari Girondi, President of the Jewish Community of the Balearic Islands, representing also the communities of the Canary Islands; José Benatar, President of the Jewish Community of Alicante Centro, representing all the communities of the Levant region; Julie Beniflah, President of the Jewish Community of Málaga; Gilbert Chocrón, President of the Jewish Community of Torremolinos, representing the communities of southern Spain; Elías Chocrón, President of the Israelite Community of Melilla, also representing the Israelite Community of Ceuta; and Silvia Leida, President of the Masortí Community of Barcelona Atid, representing the Masortí communities and Jewish associations across Spain.
Following the audience, FCJE President David Obadía and the Dayan of the FCJE, Rabbi Isaac Cohen, were also received privately by His Majesty. During the meeting, the King was informed of the social, cultural, and religious life of Jewish communities in Spain, as well as their main educational and community projects.
