The Ibn Gabirol Association, the cultural wing of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Spain (FCJE) has launched a new website.
The Ibn Gabirol Association aims to offer space for education, dialogue and understanding. The new website seeks to acquaint visitors with the Jewish world and to dismantle prejudices and preconceptions and from a contemporary, open, dynamic and current perspective.
The association pays tribute to the the medieval Jewish philosopher and poet, Shlomo Ibn Gabirol, and whose 1000th birth anniversary is celebrated in 2021. The website features a dedicated space to the biography, legacy and thought of this most important figure of the ; Spanish Golden Age’ in the 11th century.
The activities promoted by the Ibn Gabirol Association are related with the dissemination of Jewish thought and creation from different times and contexts. Consequently, the website will have a marked contemporary stamp, both formally and in terms of content, and a a thematic diversity very much in line with the 21st century: interviews with important
Jewish personalities from different fields such as culture, science and society, as well as articles, videos, video interviews, reviews, musical sessions, etc.
Likewise, there will be content related to trends of all kinds, from traditional Sephardic gastronomy, as well as profiles on Jewish figures related to international communities, both Sephardic and Ashkenazi.
At its launch, the website features on its cover an interview with filmmaker Violeta Salama. Salama, who is currently directing the first ever film production on the Sephardic world
shot in Spain, in the city of Melilla.
