FCJE welcomes EU Strategy on combating antisemitism

The Federation of Jewish Communities of Spain (FCJE) has welcomed EU Strategy on combating antisemitism and fostering Jewish life, and has requested the engagement and commitment of the Spanish government towards its implementation.

“We consider the strategy to be very thorough and amibitious, and as such it demonstrates the EU’s commitment to securing and guaranteeing Jewish life in Europe,” the FCJE said in a statement.

The strategy, which will cover the period 2021-2030 The Strategy sets out a series of measures to prevent all forms of antisemitism, secure and foster Jewish life, promote remembrance and education about Holocaust.

The FCJE, the official body representing Spanish Jewish communities, emphasised that “safeguarding heritage, protecting Jewish life and promoting Jewish culture are key to building an inclusive and pluralistic Europe”.

For its part, the FCJE it will continue to work towards “the eradication of antisemitism and all forms of discrimination”. “Antisemitism is incompatible with Western values, human rights and the spirit of democratic nations,” the statement concluded.

The FCJE is Spain’s EJC affiliate.
