The Federation of Jewish Communities in Spain and the Jewish Community of Madrid issued a statement condemning the arson attack against Rimmon Kosher Restaurant.
“On 4 March, we were informed of an attempted arson attack on the Rimmon Kosher Restaurant in central Madrid. Specifically, at 22:39, an individual entered the restaurant and doused the entrance with a liquid emitting a strong smell of petrol, intending to set fire to the premises, which was busy at the time.
The swift reaction of the restaurant staff prevented the fire, and fortunately, no casualties were reported. Following the attempted arson, the perpetrator fled the scene.
Upon learning of this terrible incident, a report was immediately filed with the National Police, who promptly arrived at the scene.
We trust that the perpetrator will soon be identified and apprehended. In the meantime, we stand ready to assist the authorities and the restaurant owners in any way required.
The Federation of Jewish Communities of Spain and the Jewish Community of Madrid strongly condemn this antisemitic act, which sought to cause harm, target public establishments frequented by the Jewish community, and instil fear among our members.
This is a heinous act of hatred—depraved and brutal—that undermines coexistence, freedom, and the spirit of tolerance that has always characterised the citizens of Madrid.”
