On anniversary of Iasi pogrom, vandals smash windows of Orăștie synagogue

The windows of the Synagogue of Orăștie in Transylvania were smashed by unidentified vandals.

The incident occured on the eve of the anniversary of the anti-Jewish pogrom in Iași, the Stirile Transilvaniei newspaper reported.

The vandalism of the historic building was discovered on 28 June morning by two archaeologists of the local Museum of Ethnography and Folk Art. They reported the incident immediately to the police.

The Orăștie synagogue, more than a century old, was restored in the early 2000s and has hosted several cultural events in recent years.
