A plaque commemorating the Gdańsk Ghetto, unveiled just a month ago, has been vandalised.
“It is worth remembering that degenerative forms of power do not arise on their own, they are not born in a void, they are often behind society’s silence, and sometimes tacit consent” said Michał Samet, Chairman of the Jewish Community in Gdańsk, on December 7, 2023, during the unveiling ceremony.
Established by the Nazis during World War II, the Gdańsk Ghetto confined thousands of Jewish residents to deplorable conditions, marked by forced labor and severe restrictions.
