Mozaik, a radio station on Moroccan Judaism, soon on air

Mozaik, a new radio station dedicated to Moroccan Judaism, will be launched in September 2022.

The construction of its studios in Casablanca are being finalized, according to Jacques Knafo, the initiator of the project.

As a member of Morocco’s Higher Council of Education, Training and Scientific Research, Knafo explained that a file has been submitted to the High Authority for Audiovisual Communication (HACA) for the granting of a license, and that the statutes are being reviewed.

“The HACA has asked us to clarify the legal status and we must comply with the specifications of private radio stations”.

Initially, the radio station will be digital, in web radio format, before being launched on FM waves once the HACA has granted its license.

“It will be a radio focused on social and cultural aspects of the Moroccan Jewish traditions and will be broadcast initially in Casablanca, Rabat and Marrakech and then it will be expanded to other cities such as Fez and Tangier” said Knafo, who is the main shareholder alongside with a French financial partner.

He explained that Mozaik will address primarily the Jewish diaspora of Moroccan origin, consisting of more than one million people, and will also reach the rural world in Morocco, the cradle of Moroccan Judaism.

The objective of this radio which will be broadcasted in Darija, Hebrew, Amazigh and French, is to highlight the Jewish-Moroccan heritage.
