King Mohammed VI has given instructions to re-name streets with their original forms in the Essalam quarter of Marrakesh.
The neighbourhood was formerly known as Hay El Mellah.
The decision follows a visit by the King to the neighbourhood and a request by the president of the Jewish community, according to a statement from the Ministry of the Interior.
“The royal instructions emanate from the concern of the sovereign, may God protect him, to safeguard the civilisational heritage of the kingdom as well as the cultural heritage of the collective components of Moroccan society,” the statement said.
