Luxembourg government guarantees the safety of the Jewish community and Israeli citizens during a parliamentary session

The Luxembourg government assures that the authorities are closely monitoring the safety of the Jewish community and Israeli citizens residing in the country, having reinforced preventive measures to avoid any risk associated with antisemitism.

Following the escalation of the conflict between Israel and Gaza, MP Marc Goergen (Pirate Party) questioned the government about the security situation of Israeli citizens and the Jewish community living in Luxembourg.

In response to the parliamentary question, Ministers Léon Gloden (Internal Affairs) and Xavier Bettel (Foreign Affairs and Defense) recalled that an Interministerial Committee to monitor the National Action Plan to Combat Antisemitism (PANAS) was created on March 27, 2024. This body aims to develop and implement concrete measures to combat antisemitism in Luxembourg.

The committee includes representatives from the RIAL association, thus ensuring an exchange of information between the authorities and the Jewish community. Furthermore, the police maintain close contact with community leaders and implement regular surveillance in sensitive areas throughout the country.

The Executive also confirms that Jewish religious festivities, which bring together large numbers of participants, are monitored by special police operations, ensuring public order and protection. According to the ministers, the police constantly assess the risks to respond appropriately to any potential threat.
