Lithuanian government to adopt action plan to combat antisemitism

The Lithuanian government aims to adopt an action plan to combat antisemitism, xenophobia, and any other form of incitement to discord, while also promoting Jewish life. The action plan is expected to be adopted by the third quarter of 2025.

The national government will oversee its implementation, but the Ministries of Culture, Education, Science and Sports, Justice, Foreign Affairs, and the Interior will also play a role in the process.

Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas established a special working group tasked with drafting the action plan. The group is to prepare the plan to combat antisemitism, xenophobia, and other forms of hate, as well as to promote Jewish life, with a deadline of 1 June.

The working group will be led by the Prime Minister’s Advisor, Aleksandras Radčenko, and will include several key figures, such as Vice-Minister of Internal Affairs Gintaras Aliksandravičius, Director of the Department of National Minorities Dainius Babilas, Head of the Culture Department of the Utena District Municipality Administration Jūratė Brasiūnienė, Member of the Vilnius City Municipality Council Vygintas Gasparavičius, Chairwoman of the Lithuanian Jewish (Litvak) Community Faina Kukliansky, Head of the Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Martynas Lukoševičius, and Vice-Minister of Education, Science, and Sports Jonas Petkevičius.

The new ruling coalition partners have already committed to tackling xenophobia in their coalition agreement and developing a plan with the appropriate measures. This commitment is also reflected in the Government’s programme.
