Italy appoints National Coordinator for the fight against Antisemitism

Italian Prime Minister appointed the Prefect Giuseppe Pecoraro as National coordinator for the fight against antisemitism.

“President Meloni – reads a note from Palazzo Chigi – thanks Professor Milena Santerini for the precious work she has done in recent years at the Prime Minister’s Office and expresses her best wishes to Prefect Pecoraro for the new position”.

The reaction of the president of the Union of Italian Jewish Communities, Noemi Di Segni, was immediate, who on the eve of the Day of Remembrance had urged the government to appoint the cnational coordinator as it is “an essential safeguard, which needs to be further strengthened”.

“The appointment of Giuseppe Pecoraro – commented Di Segni – is an important signal that comes to us from Palazzo Chigi in these intense hours of appointments dedicated to memory. We thank the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni for this, expressing our best wishes to the new coordinator for a fruitful work with respect to the many challenges that characterize antisemitism in Italy today. The communities unanimously express their profound gratitude towards those who preceded him, Professor Milena Santerini, for the commitment made in recent years for the launch of the national strategy, the guidelines for the school and most recently the agreement for the memory network with the State Railways”
