Italian flags, banners with images of Jewish partisans, and flags of the Jewish Brigade were displayed during the Roman Jewish community’s ceremony for 25 April, marking the 80th anniversary of Italy’s liberation from Nazism and Fascism.
The procession began at the Commonwealth War Cemetery on Via Zabaglia and proceeded to Porta San Paolo, a key location in Rome’s partisan resistance.
As usual, a wreath was laid on behalf of the Jewish community of Rome and the Union of Italian Jewish Communities to honour the Jewish Brigade and partisans who died fighting the occupiers.
There were moments of silence, followed by the singing of the Italian national anthem.
The ceremony was attended by Chief Rabbi Riccardo Di Segni, Roman Jewish Community President Victor Fadlun, and Union of Italian Jewish Communities President Noemi Di Segni.
Senators Lucio Malan and Ester Mieli also attended.
