Italy recorded 401 antisemitic incidents between January and June 2026, according to a new report by the Observatory on Antisemitism.
The Observatory received 621 reports during the six-month period, of which 401 were classified as antisemitic following analysis.
While the figure represents a 14 per cent decrease compared with the same period in 2025, the report warned that it remains around three times higher than the average recorded between 2019 and 2022, suggesting that antisemitism in Italy remains at a significantly elevated level.
Most incidents involved defamation and insults, with 303 cases recorded. The report also documented 42 incidents involving antisemitic graffiti or displays, 36 threats, 11 cases of discrimination, three acts of vandalism and six physical assaults. Online antisemitism remained particularly prevalent, with Facebook and Instagram accounting for a significant proportion of reported incidents.
The report identified Israel-related antisemitism as the largest ideological category, accounting for 198 incidents. It also highlighted the increasing use of antisemitic stereotypes, conspiracy theories and the collective blaming of Jews for the actions of the State of Israel.
Milan recorded the highest number of incidents among cases where a location could be identified, followed by Rome and Bologna.
