Hungarian FM Péter Szijjártó visits newly renovated Rumbach St. synagogue

Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó visited the newly renovated Rumbach Street synagogue in Budapest where he met with András Heisler, President of the Federation of Hungarian Jewish Communities (MAZSIHISZ).

The Rumbach Street synagogue has been fully renovated using resources from the Prime Minister’s Office and by Ministry of Human Resources. Following €8.3 million renovation, set to finish by the end 2020, the original interior of the synagogue has been fully reconstructed and technical enhancements have brought it into the 21st century.

Rumbach Director Henriett Kiss and Rabbi Péter Deutsch guided the Foreign Minister into the building. Following the visit, András Heisler thanked the minister for the excellent ongoing relations between Hungary and Israel.

Heisler discussed developments within the Hungarian Jewish community as well as future plans, emphasising common areas of action to enhance cooperation between the Hungarian government and the MAZSIHISZ. They also discussed constructive dialogue with international Jewish organizations. They were joined by András Büchler, MAZSIHISZ board member and the president’s foreign advisor.
