Hungarian football club honours Holocaust era hero

A Hungarian football club is to honour István Tóth-Potya, who saved hundreds of Jewish lives during the Holocaust, before a match with the Israeli team Maccabi Tel Aviv at the Groupama Stadium in Budapest.

Tóth was a Hungarian football player and coach who is counted as one of the Righteous Among the Nations.

By organising this ceremony, Ferencváros football club and the Federation of Hungarian Jewish Communities (MAZSIHISZ) – the country’s EJC afiliate – have taken an important step to combat antisemitism in Hungary.
