ESJF CEO Philip Carmel received an Award for Contributions to Hungarian Jewry from the Federation of Jewish Communities in Hungary

ESJF Chief Executive Officer Philip Carmel received the Award for Contributions to Hungarian Jewry from Professor Dr. Andor Grósz, President of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Hungary.

“I accepted this award as recognition for all that our devoted team in Ukraine and in Hungary has achieved in the preservation of Hungarian Jewish heritage and with a sincere promise that we will continue this work to memorialise the last physical witnesses of hundreds of Jewish communities in the country annihilated in the Shoah,” said Mr Carmel.

The award was presented following a rededication ceremony at the Jewish cemetery in Csákvár. The project at this site marked the 13th Jewish cemetery fenced by the ESJF in Hungary — all made possible thanks to the financial support of the German Federal Foreign Office.

The ESJF extends its heartfelt thanks to Federation of Jewish Communities in Hungary, whose partnership has been instrumental in our shared mission to preserve Jewish cemeteries in Hungary.
