Τhe President of the Central Βoard of Jewish Communities in Greece, and President of the Jewish Community of Thessaloniki, David Saltiel, received on Thursday the Cross of Merit of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his contribution to German-Jewish cooperation. The Federal Cross was handed over to Saltiel by Michael Roth, German Minister of State for Europe, in a ceremony held at the residence of the German consul in Thessaloniki.
In his speech, Roth also referred to the Holocaust Museum of Thessaloniki and applauded Saltiel’s personal involvement and commitment to the realisation of this project. Saltiel said that Roth believed in this project from the very beginning and supported it by all means.
Earlier on the same day, Saltiel had welcomed Roth to the offices of the Jewish Community of Thessaloniki, where he presented the minister with a papyrus and a symbolic commemorative gift at a special ceremony in the presence of the leadership of Greek Jewry and representatives of the German Consulate.
