COVID-19 Vaccination starts in Thessaloniki with vaccination of Holocaust survivor

Vaccinations against COVID-19 started in Thessaloniki at the “Saul D. Modiano” Home for the Elderly.

Residents and essential staff were vaccinated in the presence of the president of the National Public Health Organization (NPHO), Mr. Panagiotis Arkoumaneas.

The NPHO taskforce was welcomed by the president of the Jewish Community of Thessaloniki and the Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece, Mr. David Saltiel.

The first person to receive the vaccine was a Holocaust survivor, Mrs. Zanna Saatsoglou- Sadikario. Mrs. Saatsoglou (96) was a prisoner in Auschwitz – Birkenau and has been living in the Saul D. Modiano Home for the Elderly for the past 10 years.

The EJC will host its annual International Holocaust Remembrance Day commemoration on 26 January 2022, in partnership with the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union and the Representative Council of French Jewish Institutions (CRIF).
