Dr. Josef Schuster makes appeal for responsibility and solidarity

The President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, Dr. Josef Schuster, has made an urgent appeal for responsibility and solidarity to Germany’s Jewish communities with regard to the coronavirus.

“In this unusual situation, the elderly and other needy people in particular need the support of the Jewish communities. Asistance with buying necessities and other daily tasks is already being provided”, said Schuster

In addition, the Central Welfare Council of Jews in Germany (ZWST) has set up an advice hotline, as well as a Facebook support group. In addition,the most important statements by the Robert Koch Institute will also be published in Russian in addition to German by the ZWST.

Dr. Schuster expressly thanked the communities and their committed staff and lay leadership. “Now we are asked as a community to take responsibility for one another.”

“It is also a responsibility that everyone makes a contribution to the spread of the corona virus slowing down as much as possible. Therefore, it is important that we implement the guidelines and recommendations of the Robert Koch Institute and the authorities in our communities.”

“It is with a heavy heart that services will also have to be cancelled for the time being. Likewise, seders will not be able to take place in the communities,” Schuster added.

“Life is the greatest good we have. We now have to protect it together,” Schuster concluded.
